odysseus absolutely does present a threat to penelope if he perceives her as at all unfaithful, and i feel the unfairness of this, and i think people tend to undersell how much tension at least potentially exists between odysseus and penelope. but i'm also like. his reaction, all speculation aside, his actual reaction in the odyssey to her flirting with the suitors is delight, because he immediately ascertains that she is running a con. sorry that they're so in-sync in spite of the forces that try to drive a wedge between them, including their own misgiving hearts. sorry that they invented homophrosyne ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I just learned that Jim Henson was so conflict avoidant that there was this time his lawyers were arguing and they wanted him to get involved and he said 'nope, I've got to catch a flight to London' and then he got on a plane. He did not actually have to go to London he was just trying to get away.

I'm not even kidding when I say that one of the things that finally lit a fire under my ass when it comes to taking care of myself is learning how Jim died. It's that wild irony that he was so concerned over not having enough time to do everything that he wanted to do that never slowing down ended up being his demise. I think most of us artists are like that, so let's remember to take care of ourselves and remind our friends to do that too.

You just landed on one of 200 fandoms that have been very popular somewhere on Tumblr over the years. Topics were chosen either from appearing on a @fandom end-of-year recap or from my own long (long, long) site memories before that.

also all of these fandoms are definitely things that really exist in the real world and none of them are Tumblr creations

ed zitron, a tech beat reporter, wrote an article about a recent paper that came out from goldman-sachs calling AI, in nicer terms, a grift. it is a really interesting article; hearing criticism from people who are not ignorant of the tech and have no reason to mince words is refreshing. it also brings up points and asks the right questions:

1. if AI is going to be a trillion dollar investment, what trillion dollar problem is it solving?
2. what does it mean when people say that AI will "get better"? what does that look like and how would it even be achieved? the article makes a point to debunk talking points about how all tech is misunderstood at first by pointing out that the tech it gets compared to the most, the internet and smartphones, were both created over the course of decades with roadmaps and clear goals. AI does not have this.
3. the american power grid straight up cannot handle the load required to run AI because it has not been meaningfully developed in decades. how are they going to overcome this hurdle (they aren't)?
4. people who are losing their jobs to this tech aren't being "replaced". they're just getting a taste of how little their managers care about their craft and how little they think of their consumer base. ai is not capable of replacing humans and there's no indication they ever will because...
5. all of these models use the same training data so now they're all giving the same wrong answers in the same voice. without massive and i mean EXPONENTIALLY MASSIVE troves of data to work with, they are pretty much as a standstill for any innovation they're imagining in their heads

AI/ML is a tool like any other. It's not a miracle fix for everything, just like how it isn't an evil entity

Getting my big font because I've said this before and I'm getting angy about it:

You need to stop saying "AI" when you mean "generative AI".

You need to stop inferring "generative AI" when you just see "AI".

You are throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Attention aspiring Lycion cosplayers!

We Love Colors has a new product that is EXACTLY what you need if you want to cosplay everyone's favorite exhibitionist elf werewolf without actually being naked:

These bodysuits/tops are SEAMLESS and opaque!!! As you can see in the sample images, the model's skintone doesn't show through.

Lycion's armored collar will perfectly hide the neck seam, and you can either do a full body suit and paint all of his tattoos onto it, or just use the upper body version to cover your torso, with the loincloth covering the hem at the bottom of the shirt, if you don't mind having your bare legs on display, and painting the leg tattoos on every time.

Either way, this will probably make for a totally comfortable, full-coverage option if you want to cosplay this character.

These suits are also a great option if you don't want to paint yourself or cover yourself with feathers while cosplaying Izutsumi or the chimera.

You can just have your bare skin under these, as they are 100% opaque, but you can also wear a muscle suit under them if you aren't as muscular as Lycion.
